  • Pepper Place is located in Birmingham’s historic Southside neighborhood, just minutes from downtown. Centered along 2nd Avenue South and alongside the Jones Valley Trail in our backyard, the district is home to a curated mix of locally owned shops, restaurants, wellness studios, and nationally recognized design showrooms, all set within thoughtfully restored historic buildings.

  • Parking is available throughout the district, including street parking and nearby lots. Many visitors choose to park once and explore on foot, as Pepper Place was designed to be a walkable district where shops, restaurants, and studios are just steps from one another.

  • Running through the heart of the district, Pepper Place’s pedestrian alley acts as a central thread connecting several historic buildings and inviting visitors to explore on foot. Seasonal flowers, installations, and historical markers create moments to pause while moving between shops, restaurants, and gathering spaces.

  • Yes. Pepper Place is easily accessible by car, bike, or your own two feet. Many visitors arrive via the Jones Valley Trail, which runs parallel to 2nd Avenue South and connects the district to surrounding neighborhoods including Lakeview, Forest Park, Avondale, and downtown Birmingham.

  • Pepper Place strives to make the district accessible to all visitors. Most businesses are located at street level, and accessible parking is available in designated areas throughout the property.

  • Pepper Place began as the home of the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in the early 1900s. Today, those historic industrial buildings have been carefully restored and repurposed, creating a district that honors Birmingham’s past while supporting a creative community of design, chefs, and pathmakers.

    Visitors can explore Pepper Place’s story through our district timeline and interpretive moments placed throughout the property, highlighting its industrial roots and transformation into one of Birmingham’s most distinctive destinations.

  • Yes. Throughout the year, Pepper Place hosts seasonal markets, district gatherings, and special events that bring together neighbors, visitors, and local businesses.

  • Our most notable recurring event, the Pepper Place Farmers Market, takes place seasonally from mid-January through mid-December, on Saturdays from 7 AM to 12 PM. The market features local farmers, food producers, and artisans and has become a beloved weekly tradition in Birmingham.

  • Yes. Pepper Place is a designated Entertainment District, allowing visitors to enjoy alcoholic beverages purchased from participating businesses while walking within district boundaries.

    Beverages must be purchased from participating businesses within Pepper Place and served in approved district cups.

    Please note:

    • Drinks must remain within the district boundaries
    • Alcohol may not be brought from outside locations
    • Beverages purchased from one establishment should not be brought into another restaurant or bar

  • Yes. Casual photography for personal use is welcome throughout the district. Pepper Place’s historic architecture, public spaces, and pedestrian alleyways often provide beautiful backdrops for everyday moments.

    Please note that Pepper Place is private property. By visiting the district, guests acknowledge that photography and video may be taken during public events and used for promotional purposes.

  • Professional photography, commercial shoots, or organized photo sessions may require advance permission from property management. Please contact us ahead of time so we can help coordinate and ensure minimal disruption to our businesses and guests. 

  • Yes. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas of the district. Please keep pets leashed and be mindful of individual business policies.

  • Yes. While Pepper Place is home to many design studios and specialty retailers, the district welcomes visitors of all ages and is designed as a place for the community to gather, explore, and connect.
