A new, Mediterranean-influenced restaurant will open in Birmingham's Pepper Place development this summer, Sloss Real Estate Co. announced today.

The restaurant, Za'atar Bar and Kitchen, will be located at 216 29th St. South in the Lakeview District.

Ashley Tarver, who worked in the kitchens of Highlands Bar and Grill and Hot and Hot Fish Club, is the chef and proprietor at Za'atar Bar and Kitchen.

Tarver's previous experience also includes working in restaurants in Argentina and Spain, which eventually led her to start a catering business that specializes in famous Spanish dishes made with a Southern flair.

Necessity led Tarver to start her Copper Pot Kitchen brand of infused olive oils that she initially started selling at the The Market at Pepper Place.

"I began to infuse olive oil with the flavors I needed," Tarver said in a statement. "One flavor led to another, and then another, and before I knew it, I had a food business."

The Copper Pot Kitchen olive oils are now available in more than 300 locations, including Whole Foods Market, Sprouts and Williams-Sonoma.

And now they have led to Tarver opening a restaurant.
